On Weekends Like This, Remember You and Them
When weekends bring more than we expect
For some, this weekend is filled with celebration or holiday rituals.
For others, it’s just another weekend.
And for many, it’s both… while still carrying loss.
Weekends like this have a way of bringing things to the surface.
A memory. A moment. A shift you didn’t expect.
So here’s something to carry with you:
Remember you and them.
Remember them in whatever way feels right. A quiet thought. A name spoken. A small ritual that’s yours. For me, it’s red roses. I’ve always loved flowers, but red roses were what I sent my mom. They were also draped across her service.
Now I keep them in my home on occasion. They remind me of her.
And somehow, they help me hold both the loss and the joy at the same time.
A colleague once shared that for him, it’s his dad’s ties.
He doesn’t wear suits often, but anytime he does, he wears one of his dad’s ties.
It’s his way of bringing his dad with him into the room.
And remember you. The one still showing up. Still leading. Still holding more than most people can see. You don’t have to choose between honoring them and taking care of yourself.
You can do both. And that’s more than enough for this weekend.
Until next time friends,
Carolyn’s Daughter
