Go for a Walk
A simple reset I had to relearn
I didn’t plan anything elaborate. No big breakthrough. No structured reflection.
I just went for a walk. And somewhere between the quiet steps and the stillness of the trees, something shifted.
The noise softened. The urgency eased.
My mind, body, and spirit started to come back into alignment.
I’ve been carrying a lot. Not in a dramatic way. (Don’t worry yall!)
In the quiet, invisible way that leadership often requires (and many of you carry too).
Decisions. Responsibility. Emotional weight. The awareness that people are looking to you. And if I’m honest, I hadn’t made much space to put any of it down for real.
But on that walk, I did something I haven’t done enough of lately. I talked to my mom. Out loud in some moments. In my head in others. I shared what’s been sitting with me. The things I would have told her if she were still here. She was always my processing partner.
And in many ways, this felt like returning to that rhythm.
Just… in a different form. Not replacing her. But staying connected to her.
For those of us who lead in our work, our families, and our communities…
We don’t always pause long enough to reset. Not because we don’t need it.
But because everything we’re carrying feels important. And it is.
But so are you. So here’s what I’m recommitting to. Not something complex. Not something that requires perfect conditions.
Just this:
Go for a walk.
Go to a park.
Walk your neighborhood.
Step outside when you travel.
Take advantage of the moments before the heat settles in and life speeds up again.
Not for exercise. For alignment. For quiet. For honesty. For connection. For release. Sometimes the reset you need is not a strategy. It’s a step outside.
A question for you:
Where do you go, or what do you do, when you need to reset? Reply to this message and let us know. We read every message.
